News from the Management

Wolfgang Degwerth (56) took over the management of Exelliq Austria GmbH in Nußbach on January 1st, 2023. Degwerth has 24 years of experience in the plastics industry and most recently worked for a leading international injection moulding machinery group in the US.

Mr Degwerth, what were the most important milestones in your career?

My passion for creativity and development quickly led me to a renowned manufacturer of cam switches, where I accompanied development processes and implemented CAD and PDM systems as head of the R&D department. Via a US software company leading in the areas of product data management and CAD, where I worked as a senior project manager, I finally joined a globally active injection moulding company. There, as Business Unit Manager After Sales Service, I merged certain departments within the group before spending the last few years responsible for all corporate units in the Americas.

What was your biggest challenge?

I'm thinking of a devastating high water that flooded the whole headquarter of the company, put countless machines out of action and virtually paralysed the entire IT. The subsequent restoration of the plant's functionality took several weeks.

What do you draw strength from?

From my family and from nature. A tree that simply bends in the wind and doesn't care about all the hustle and bustle of this world is a beautiful picture for me to realign, to recalibrate.

Which areas inspired you then and now?

Definitely the topic of digitalisation, and with it the continuous optimisation. I think in processes and love to make them even better. Sustainability is also very important to me, especially in terms of making good decisions that work for as long as possible. The management of employees as the essential resource of any successful company is also particularly close to my heart.

What will your first steps at Exelliq be?

I want to get to know the colleagues, the workflows and the processes in the company very well in order to understand the big picture. In change management, it is highly important for me to understand both the needs and the fears of the employees. Furthermore, I would like to not only maintain our proven quality but optimise things even further, according to my motto "It can always be better" - and never lose the fun at work.
